Around a decade ago, I began making my own toothpaste after seeing how potent baking soda was at cleaning my teeth and preventing cavities. I mixed it with some essential oils because - much like natural deodorant at the time - none of the natural toothpastes were effective at removing tartar or properly cleaning my teeth. 

But I needed to know more. A friend, whose father is a dentist, told me to look at the studies that had been conducted about Manuka honey in regards to cleaning the teeth. And then I began looking at clove for gum health, probiotics for oral health and pearl powder for whitening, because N-HA toothpastes alone still weren't doing the job or removing tartar. In fact, nothing on the market that was deemed natural and fluoride-free left my mouth feeling extra clean, unless it was in a jar. 

We went through several rounds during the product development stage, because the first round of samples was very similar to what's already out there - ineffective and loaded with a cheap base that doesn't polish the teeth. I see no point in creating something unless it does everything I want it to, and as we progressed, I asked the lab to use the maximum percentage of every active in my formula.
