The Agent Nateur holi (grail) Interview: Jasmina Vico

In this latest installment of our holi (grail) series, we catch up with esthetician and leading skin health and laser expert Jasmina Vico. Famous for creating screen-ready skin, it’s no wonder her global clients include Angelina Jolie, Margot Robbie, Sienna Miller, Elizabeth Debicki, Charlie XCX, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nadia Lee Cohen and Jodie Comer. With over 20 years of experience, Jasmina has developed pioneering advancements that blend natural science and technology protocols for her signature skin treatments and she’s even launched her own beauty brand.
What’s your skincare and beauty routine?
I practice Transcendental Meditation to help me prepare before I start my day.
Then I'll have a cup of loose leaf peppermint tea from Croatia. If I have time, I’ll make a cold pressed turmeric, ginger and lemon shot too. At home I have filtered alkaline water. My favorite water is Vichy Catalan.
The best skincare routine starts with a good night’s sleep, with deep sleep and REM. I have been monitoring my sleep for about 5 years now with my Oura Ring. The whole body regenerates while you sleep. In terms of skincare I believe less is more.
Morning Routine:
-
Cold rinsing on my face
-
Vitamin C (Skinceuticals CE Ferulic)
-
ZO Eye Growth Factor for the eye area
-
Dermaceutic K Ceutic Cream SPF 50+ or Actinica
Night Routine:
-
Vico Skin (double layer as a mask) is fantastic for hydration
-
A few nights a week I also use EGF Growth Factor Serum Bioeffect and Retinols (R retinoate intense from Medik8).
-
Agent Nateur holi (glow) serum works wonders under my eyes
-
I can’t go to bed without nourishing my skin all over with body (balm). It’s so velvety and you wouldn’t believe how soft my skin is in the morning.
I also like to apply a Valmont Prime Renewing pack and Regenerative Mask Treatment (Sheet Mask) either a few times a week or when it’s needed.
What are your current favorite products?
-
Santa Maria Novella Rose Water - they have amazing shower gels and parfums. Founded by the monks in Florence 1221 it was the world’s first pharmacy.
-
Tom Ford Eye Pallet 31 Sous Le Sable
-
I’m currently experimenting with different eye contour pencils
How do you prepare to look your best for a big event?
Hm. I’m always stressed and leave it until the last minute to get started, and I always annoy my twin sister Masha, asking her what to wear and to style it for me - literally every time!
I put on a Valmont Regenerative Mask to prepare my skin, and I do my own lymphatic and lifting massage. I always use Vico Skin Screen Star because it's a fantastic base for makeup, and for my makeup I’m pretty easy:
-
Suqqu Nude Wear Liquid Ex foundation or Chantecaille Future Skin
-
Lips - The Prada Astral Pink balm that makes the lips blush pink. Lip contour from Burberry (they don’t make it anymore, but I was introduced to it by the make up artist Isamaya Ffrench). I use the Jillian Dempsey cheek tint in dark red as a lip tint.
-
Black Eyeliner by Hindash Cosmetics, which was recommended to me by makeup artist Harold James - he is a genius! Or I’ll use a brown Max Factor pencil to create the illusion of longer lashes, depending on the look I want to achieve.
-
Mascara - definitely Bourjois Volume Push Glamour Ultra Black edition, and Mac Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara. I use two mascaras - the first to build the lashes, and the second to elongate the look.
-
Parfum - I’m obsessed with a parfums, I have so many haha. I’m using Aqua and Iris from Santa Maria Novella at the moment.
-
Body cream - I use Biafine or anything that contains pantexol or after sun, and the body (balm) from Agent Nateur.
Are there any challenges to your beauty routine - work, home, travel etc? Have you ever made any lifestyle changes to support your wellbeing?
My skin routine is simple and pretty easy, I make sure I prioritize my sleep, and then everything else falls into place. Due to my work schedule and working on different types of projects this has to be my priority. If you don’t sleep nothing will help, and your body won’t regenerate the way it needs to on a cellular level. I usually sleep for 7 or 8 hours, with my room temperature around 18C. I recommend sleeping on your back with your head elevated on your pillows, as this helps with drainage.
I also strongly recommend Vagus Nerve toning (to calm and reduce stress), and using the Sensate relaxation gadget before going to bed. I wear my Oura ring to monitor my sleep, which really helps, because you can adjust your routine. My sleep aids include magnesium, glycine and camomile loose tea from Croatia. I’m also a huge fan of calm (beauty) as it helps me wind down in an evening, especially if I’ve been working late or on location, and it really does help me get a better quality sleep.
I like to have acupuncture, and massages. I’ve been seeing the best masseuse in the world for the last 10 years. Her name is Moon, and she will break you and put you back together like a puzzle. She used to massage Elizabeth Taylor, who is one of my icons, and I reckon if she is good enough for Elizabeth Taylor then she is good enough for me.
What’s your go-to healthy snack?
If I’m at work then it would have to be Greek yogurt with blueberries and raspberries. When I have a day off then I’ll do my cold press juices. I like to make a mess in the kitchen - I love experimenting! My famous one is a Spicy Princess (ginger, lime, turmeric and celery) which is very strong - you can check it out on my Instagram. Another healthy favorite is sliced avocado, with lime and eggs, with olive oil from Croatia.
Both holi (mane) and holi (radiance) for hair, skin and nails have become part of my daily health routine - it’s so easy to pop a scoop in my favorite morning juice or coffee. My milk thistle (loose tea from Croatia) is great for detoxing. I usually source my food from the farmers’ market, as I like to support the locals and eat whatever is in season.
When you were younger, who was your beauty icon? Who inspires you now?
Music, film and art always inspired me, I am big David Lynch fan and have been since my childhood, so naturally Blue Velvet and Isabella Rosellini. Madonna, definitely, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Billie Holiday, Courtney Love. Badass women who worked hard to get what they wanted in life. And all of them have that elegance and exquisite aesthetic. I like strong women and characters who are full of personality. That’s what I am drawn to, that kind of energy.
Visually, what always inspires me is the lighting and glow that bounces on the skin when you marry the costume in the movies with skin, light and make up to create the character. I am interested in that when I work on film projects with many of my clients. For example, Billie Holiday with the flowers in her hair, how that brings the glow to her skin and beauty, that softness. Or Kim Basinger in LA Confidential with her black velvet cape that had a white silk lining to illuminate her skin even more, and make her look like a saint. Like a halo. These are the small details that make perfection.
My clients inspire me all the time. I also find inspiration and knowledge in storytelling and science. Being curious all the time, this is who I am!
Any ‘tweakments’ (skincare and non-surgical) procedures you’d recommend or have planned for ‘one day’?
There are plenty I’d recommend. I’m fortunate that I have everything in my Vico House for clients to choose from with a variety of machines - lasers, exosomes, PRP or polynucleotides which can be used alone or combined - that are beneficial for their skin health. I use my knowledge and experience to ensure all the treatments are tailored for individual skin concerns, for example for collagen remodelling, lifting and tightening and overall health of the skin, or skin texture pore tightening, or muscle lifting.
What is your go to / favorite beauty look to create and what inspired this look?
I look at the skin like a canvas, and always try to improve the overall appearance and create radiance. I love bold black eyeliner and red lips with glassy skin.
Biggest beauty mistake?
I guess thin eyebrows but thankfully mine have since grown back. I also had a disaster once, when I was experimenting with skincare around the eye area, which of course is really delicate - my eyes looked like ‘scrotum’ eyes, haha!
But my twin sister, Masha, has the best story of the biggest beauty mistake. When she was going to the hairdresser to become a Hitchcock blonde, her hair snapped and she ended up with a “forced mullet” - business at the front and party at the back. Bless her, she had to wear Alice bands and hair clips for a year until her hair grew back.
And finally… what can you NOT do without? What’s the holy grail of the products you use?
Vico Skin Screen Star, which I’ve created for myself and my clients. Everyone is obsessed with it.
