Beauty from Within - How to get that Radiant Glow with MSM

Beauty from Within - How to get that Radiant Glow with MSM

I'm truly in love with MSM. If you've been following me for a while, you might know that MSM was one of the earliest supplements I ever discussed, as I discovered it back in 2009, so I'm beyond excited to share with you the latest addition to our product line - holi (radiance). It has healed me in so many ways, but one of the many things this supplement does is it helps you achieve that coveted beauty and luminescent glow from within, and I swear by it! holi (radiance) is packed with a beauty mineral that you NEED in your life - MSM.

MSM is a naturally occurring sulfur compound that is essential for collagen production, and it's been shown to improve the signs of skin aging in several studies. The benefits are ENDLESS yet despite these incredible benefits, not many people know about MSM. But that's about to change. With holi (radiance), we're bringing this beauty mineral into the spotlight, and I can't wait for you to experience what it can do for your skin, hair and nails.

So, what is MSM?  MSM stands for Methylsulfonylmethane and is a naturally occurring form of sulfur found in all living organisms. It's also known as the "Beauty Mineral" because of its potent anti-aging and skin-enhancing properties (particularly how it can boost collagen and keratin production in the body, all while nutritionally supporting the condition of skin, hair, and nails too).

MSM is the purest form of sulfur, which means it's highly bioavailable and easily absorbed by the body.  But while sulfur is the third most abundant substance in our body, right after water and gasses (yes, wild, I know!) unfortunately, many people today are not getting enough sulfur in their diets, leading to depletion and an increased risk of health problems. Even worse, as we age, the concentration of MSM in our bodies naturally decreases, making it more difficult for our bodies to generate new cells. So, if you're looking for a natural way to support your beauty from within, MSM is the perfect supplement to add to your routine and I’m going to run you through the benefits.

MSM and Skin Health

MSM boosts glutathione levels (our body's major antioxidant, which protects against oxidative damage caused by free radicals) and also supports healthy liver detoxification. Another benefit of MSM is that is also has collagen-preserving properties that inhibit collagen breakdown, so as the body’s collagen naturally declines with age and leads to wrinkles and sagging skin, supplementing with MSM is effective in significantly improving skin appearance and condition - and everyone wants more collagen, right? What's even cooler is that my pharmacist explained that they did a study on it and it actually ENHANCES the effect of marine collagen! So combine holi (mane) with holi (radiance) and you have the perfect powerful double team.

The potential for overhauling your skin health with MSM doesn’t stop there.

A double-blind study found that those who supplemented with 3g of MSM daily for 16 weeks experienced significant improvements in skin firmness, tone, texture, and a reduction in crow's feet.

Another clinical study, involving 27 women aged 40-65, found that combining MSM and collagen significantly improved skin health. Results showed a 19% increase in dermis density, a 40% increase in skin hydration, a 12% reduction in skin roughness, and a 21% reduction in wrinkles. The combination of MSM and collagen proved effective in promoting collagen synthesis, increasing skin moisture, and reducing signs of aging.

With the added benefit of potentially reducing stretch marks and with its collagen-preserving properties too, it's no wonder MSM is one of my ‘must-haves’ in the quest for youthful, glowing, and healthy skin.

MSM and Skin Texture

Anyone who struggles with skin texture knows it is such a frustrating journey to try and get to the bottom of, so I think it's amazing that studies have shown that MSM may enhance skin cell turnover rate and improve skin texture too. In a 2020 study, 22 out of 31 participants who received a high dose of 3g/d showed improvement in skin texture after just four weeks of use. Studies are showing that MSM also combats environmental damage that can cause discoloration, fine lines, and sagging skin. So, with MSM, you can take a step towards saying goodbye to clogged pores, pimples, and uneven skin texture from the world outside.

MSM and Anti-Aging

As well as skin health and skin texture, studies are demonstrating that MSM has anti-aging properties too. A study published in February 2020 found that participants who received 3 grams/day of MSM for 16 weeks had reduced facial wrinkles and skin roughness compared to the placebo group. MSM is amazing for combatting the signs of aging because it acts as a sulfur donor to keratin, a key structural protein that provides strength to hair and skin. It also supports the production of collagen and glucosamine, which help maintain skin cell membrane flexibility and permeability, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

MSM also provides the body with the raw materials needed for skin repair and new skin cell turnover. And it doesn't stop there! We call it the supplement that helps with ‘beauty from within’ because MSM helps maintain the body's pH balance and promotes an efficient exchange of nutrients and waste products that help keep skin clear. It's also alkaline, which means it can neutralize body acid, and studies show it can also enhance metabolic processes within the body.

MSM and Inflammation

MSM is also anti-inflammatory! It can reduce inflammation by lowering the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which can damage skin cells and cause signs of premature aging like wrinkles. A randomized, placebo-controlled study successfully demonstrated the anti-aging effects of MSM, which include collagen-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties. MSM may even accelerate cell regeneration and skin cell turnover rate, as well as neutralizing free radicals. Plus, the wound-healing properties of MSM may aid in skin repair. I told you, this is a multi-functional, very powerful beauty mineral!

MSM and Skin and Connective Tissue Health

Exciting research shows that MSM extensively supports connective tissue health, preventing skin and connective tissue stiffness. This is because MSM helps keep collagen fibers strong, preserving connective tissue pliancy and promoting skin elasticity and structure. Additionally, MSM is essential for skin and connective tissue regeneration, playing a crucial role in collagen production. Optimal levels of MSM have been shown to significantly improve skin health and promote connective tissue generation and regeneration.

MSM and Hair Growth

Studies are also starting to show how MSM can support hair growth and retention. Research has suggested that MSM may help form bonds essential for strengthening the keratin in hair and influencing hair growth. In a 2009 study on mice, researchers found that hair growth depended on the amount of MSM applied. Additionally, a 2019 study on human participants found that oral supplements with MSM improved the appearance of hair and nails, with higher concentrations of 3 grams per day showing quicker and more pronounced benefits. MSM is also rich in thiamine and biotin, two B vitamins essential for strong, healthy skin and hair. One study even found that combining MSM with MAP, a form of vitamin C, resulted in hair growth comparable to or better than minoxidil 5%, a pharmaceutical drug with potential side effects.

Guys, I adore this supplement for its beautifying properties. It's perfect for mixing in your morning smoothie with holi (mane), particularly as we start to head into summer.

It is regenerative, stimulating, and a key part of me overhauling my hair, skin, and nails. They say it works to deliver beauty from within, and I believe this, which is why I am SO happy to have finished formulating and finally be able to bring holi (radiance) TO YOU!
