NAD+ Therapy: What's the Hype?

NAD+ Therapy: What's the Hype?

What exactly is NAD+?

NAD+ (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme that is present in each living cell in our bodies. Just like gas fuels our cars, NAD+’s main purpose is to fuel our metabolic reactions. It also plays an integral role in our gene expression that is linked to age-related diseases. The proteins that regulate certain processes like DNA repair, mitochondrial function, and calcium signaling, are called Sirtuins. Sirtuins regulate cell health and cellular resistance to stressful conditions and aging. They also require NAD+ to function.

As we age, our bodies produce less of NAD+, so here's where NAD+ IV Therapy comes in.

NAD+ was discovered in our bodies in the early 1900’s but it wasn’t until 1961 that the first NAD therapy treatment was recorded in South Africa. NAD+ IV Therapy is essentially a high dose vitamin IV infusion that goes straight into the bloodstream. This form of NAD+ IV treatment delivers 100% bioavailability compared to other routes like oral, thus it’s a more effective and faster outcome. When you flood your body with NAD+, you can help your body function better on a molecular level and possibly safeguard from future deterioration. It’s also worth noting that it’s a natural, holistic therapy and the results have been outstanding when it comes to helping overcome addiction, slowing down the aging process, and minimizing pain.

Since NAD+ is naturally produced and used by every cell in our bodies, NAD+ Therapy can be used to treat a wide rage of conditions.

NAD+ and Addiction:

NAD+ IV Therapy clinics don’t claim that the therapy “cures” addiction. Simply, NAD+ IV Therapy is a natural option that helps heal the brain on a cellular level thus kickstarting ones recovery. NAD+ IV has an ability to reduce cravings-which is a major role in quitting drugs and alcohol. It also reduces depression and boosts energy levels one experiences while withdrawing from from drugs and alcohol.

NAD+ and Anti-aging:

Although the best foundation for a youthful complexion and body is taking care of your body with healthy food, efficacious skincare routines, a positive outlook, and physical upkeep, NAD+ IV Therapy is a way to help give your body a natural boost. In the same way that elastin and collagen production are reduced with age, NAD+ production levels also slow down overtime with age. According to The Massudi Article from 2012, NAD+ levels decline by up to 50% in human skin tissue between the ages of 40–60. Recent research by scientists at Harvard Medical School have discovered that DNA damage was reversed with just one week of NAD+ treatment which also reversed the aspects of aging (the study was done in mice but impressive nonetheless). The benefits of NAD+ IV Therapy include clearer skin, thicker nails and hair, and a youthful appearance as well as increased energy and less brain fog.

 NAD+ and Pain Management

In an era where at least 25% of Americans suffer from chronic pain, NAD+can be a better, safer alternative to drug prescriptions that come with lots side effects. For example, 75% of patients who started taking prescription opiates for pain develop an addiction. NAD+ IV Therapy offers a non-addictive alternative to those suffering from chronic pain. The causes of chronic pain can include sore joints, inflammation, nerve damage, or diseases like cancer, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and AIDS.

In a study done in 2014, researchers found that administering NAD intravenously helped with pain reduction for up to 2 days after the last injection. Not only does NAD IV Therapy help reduce pain, it also helps promote healing on a cellular level. Boosting the NAD+ levels in your body allows your body to heal itself after injury by promoting the regeneration of blood vessels. So essentially your cells are able to activate the enzymes that help prevent and correct damage done to our DNA. So NAD+ IV Therapy along with lifestyle changes like adding exercise to your daily life, a non-inflammatory diet, avoiding toxins like alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes can reduce your chronic pain greatly.

There are a few other ways other than IV Therapy that also promote our bodies to produce more of its own NAD+ through oral supplementation and eating foods high in B3 or taking a B3 supplement.

NAD+ IV Therapy is usually done in a clinic with 1 infusion per day for 10 days. Most patients report feeling better and having increased mental clarity between the 4thand 8thday. Other benefits experienced with it include increased concentration, improved memory, mood, balance, vision and hearing. The most commonly reported side effect with NAD+ therapy is feeling only slightly flu-like, but it’s subsides within a couple of days.
