What is Slow Aging?

What is Slow Aging?

Remember in 13 Going on 30 when Jenna makes a wish to become older? Didn’t we all want to look older when we were that age? But then, when we do reach our mid 20s and early 30s, oh, how we want to stay looking that way for a little bit longer!

Prejuvenation (preventing the loss of youth and delaying the need for rejuvenation) is a big player in the skincare world these days. That’s why ‘slow aging’ is a concept we can all embrace when we choose our products and routines.

Current trends such as K-Beauty are promoting and endorsing slow aging products and routines, with simple skincare steps for youthful, dewy skin that looks amazing with or without makeup.  Agent Nateur products are created for all ages and skin types. Our anti-aging ingredients work on younger skin to help delay the signs of aging, just as well as they help reduce signs of aging in more mature skin.

So here’s our Go-To Guide for any of you in your mid 20s to early 30s, to keep your skin healthy, youthful and beautiful.

You need a light routine you can follow every day, using products that work on elasticity and protect against damage-causing pollutants. If you haven’t already seen our feature on Skin Streaming it’s definitely gonna help you out with your planning here.

Three key ingredients to look for: Vitamin C, Collagen, and Retinol. Here’s why:

V I T A M I N   C:  Our natural supply of vitamin C grows and repairs tissues in all parts of our bodies, and when it comes to our faces, it helps to keep our skin from sagging. But as we grow older, we produce less and need to start using skincare products containing vitamin C to maintain the collagen we have and encourage the production of new collagen. Its antioxidant properties also help fight free radicals and environmental factors that can damage the skin.

So the first item we’d recommend for your slow aging kit would be our holi (c). It’s a gentle powder formula combining ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and calcium ketogluconate (a French-patented natural molecule clinically tested to promote elastin and hyaluronic acid production in the skin’s deepest layers). You’ll start to notice all these improvements that promote a youthful appearance:

  • improved skin texture
  • a clear, supple complexion
  • restored elasticity
  • plumping around fine lines
  • boosted radiance
  • protection against environmental stressors.

Use it morning and night - just mix a dash with three spritzes of holi (water) pearl and rose hyaluronic essence or filtered water and pat it gently onto your face, neck and decolletage before applying your moisturizing oil or creme.

Another product we love is the Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic, a vitamin C serum with additional vitamin E and ferulic acid, which firms and brightens the complexion, lightens lines and provides environmental protection.

C O L L A G E N:  By the time we’re 30, our body’s ability to produce collagen decreases - which is why we start to see wrinkles and our skin doesn't feel as firm as it once was. Collagen is a protein found in the skin’s connective tissues and collagen peptides play a role in strengthening the elasticity of hair, nails, skin, bones, eyes, joints and tendons. Taken as a supplement, collagen can enhance the moisture content of skin and aid firmness and suppleness.

Our holi (mane) is a powerful daily supplement that uses marine collagen and pearl powder to promote flourishing hair, radiant skin, and resilient nails. It helps you maintain your youthful glow by:

  • promoting collagen production
  • promoting cell renewal
  • combating loss of volume
  • targeting fine lines
  • hydrating and plumping dry skin via amino acids

R E T I N O L: Thanks to its skin-loving anti-aging properties, retinol (also called vitamin A), is hugely popular. You can get it on prescription, or buy over-the-counter versions. It’s available in a range of serums and moisturizers and can work wonders on your skin, because it:

  • increases skin cell production
  • helps unclog pores
  • exfoliates
  • increases collagen production
  • can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • makes skin appear fresher and more hydrated

One retinol product we love is A313, a French over-the-counter retinol cream, which gives really glowing results. It has a high 0.12% retinol esters concentration, and is said to rival prescription retinoids. It’s great for accelerating skin regeneration and skin cell renewal, with the added benefits of it working on acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.

Our tips for using retinol: Use regularly -  most users apply it about every three days. Don’t expect instant results - allow three to four months (for some people as long as six months) to see the benefits. You absolutely must moisturize and nourish your skin really well when you use it.

However, retinol is not for everyone. If you have dry skin or are prone to eczema, there’s a chance that using retinol might cause irritation - so that’s a conversation you should have first with your dermatologist. Retinol is also not recommended for use during pregnancy. A good alternative is our holi (oil) which is pregnancy and breastfeeding safe and contains ingredients which increase skin elasticity and decrease skin sagging.

B A B Y   B O T O X: As a preventative - rather than a corrective - treatment, Baby Botox is becoming popular amongst Gen Z and millennials from their mid-20s upwards. It’s a mini-dose, so your face will feel more flexible and less frozen than a full treatment.  The results are more subtle than regular botox and provide a more natural look, which should last for around two to three months. Definitely one to consider if you want just a little help with the earliest signs of becoming a little older.

C H E M I C A L   P E E L S: With chemical peels you get a brighter, smoother skin and peels also help with scarring, uneven tone and texture. This skin revitalizing procedure is carried out by a dermatologist, who applies an exfoliant acid solution to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells.

There are three types of peel: light, medium, and deep. Deeper peels are not usually recommended for younger skin as they’re designed to work on the deeper signs of aging. For younger skin, a light chemical peel no more than twice a year could be beneficial. Always speak to your dermatologist to determine which type of peel is best for you.

G O O D   H A B I T S

The first one’s easy - and we cannot emphasize this enough: use an SPF and use it daily. Our new holi (soleil)is SPF 50+, and sized to easily fit into your handbag - plus it’s TSA travel size approved.  Always remember to reapply.

The second good habit to get into is just as easy and full of star quality - a pair of sunglasses is one of the most effective ways of preventing fine lines from forming around your eye area. If you wear them, you squint less and you have the added bonus of looking super chic.  Larger frames and wraparound styles tend to do the best job as they cover more of the delicate skin around the eye area.

So now you have a few recommendations for products, treatments and good habits that you can incorporate into an effective and manageable Slow Aging regime. Choose additional cleansers and moisturizers to work alongside these in your daily routine and don’t forget the other essentials - drink plenty of water, get regular exercise, eat a range of fruit and vegetables for your vitamins and minerals, and get a good night’s sleep. All of these will support your new skincare habits - and keep you young and beautiful for even longer!
