If you followed me for a while, you know that I don't cut costs when it pertains to formulation. I find the best quality actives and raw ingredients that are available to me, regardless of the price. This leads to the answer of why I believe my particular pearl powder is different from other brands who are using it in their formulas. Let's be honest- most brands care about making their margin and if they have the chance to buy pearl powder that is $30 vs $300, they will usually avoid the latter. But the proof is evident in the results (or lack of results) you are given.

They say the true value of a pearl necklace is the value of the pearl. This is something that also applies to the pearl powder I use in my holi (mane), holi (glow) and holi (water) skincare formulas. The highest quality pearl comes with the highest price point and take it from me, it is SO worth the value! 

Most pearl powders on the market are sourced from freshwater pearls. Freshwater pearls are grown in ponds, rivers and lakes and form in various species of mussels. These pearls are cultured very fast and have lower nutrient density. To the visual eye, the freshwater pearl is less lustrous and not as glossy or beautiful as saltwater pearls are. This is because these pearls are nucleated with tissue and made up of nacre all the way through. 

The saltwater pearl is magical and rare. Saltwater pearls are produced by oysters found in the sea and only produce 1-3 pearls at a time while freshwater mussels can be nucleated to produce up to 50 pearls at a time!  Saltwater pearls are bead nucleated. Because saltwater pearls take longer to grow, the nacre quality is often better, this reflects in the luster and reflection that freshwater pearls tend to not have! (Btw- it’s the nacre that causes regeneration of fibroblasts and osteoblasts which are essential to new skin, collagen and bone formation. The higher the quality of nacre in the pearl the more medicinal!) Saltwater pearl oysters are mostly cultivated in protected lagoons or volcanic atolls and contain a variety of natural minerals, nutrients, and a stable PH measurement that freshwater pearls do not have. The reason for this is that the ocean is full of these nutrients!  The ocean is rich with nutrients, namely, beneficial elements, which include magnesium, calcium, potassium, chromium, selenium, zinc, and vanadium. These minerals supply nutrients to the body that are essential for our health!

Did you know that oysters are filter feeders? They eat by pumping large volumes of water through their bodies. The nutrients in the water are filtered through the oyster and into the pearl which is why the saltwater pearl is so abundantly nutritious and medicinal! 

So, with that said, you understand why I source only high-quality saltwater pearls for my formulas. Natural saltwater pearls are extremely difficult to find in the market, this is why they are so valuable and so much more expensive but absolutely worth the price!  The benefits in my pearl powder are endless from its abundance of calcium, magnesium, and iron, plus conchiolin, a magical protein composed of 17 skin-beautifying amino acids.  Conchiolin hydrates the skin, rebuilds collagen and increases skin’s barrier action for retaining moisture. It also tones skin and inhibits melanin production.
